The Association was formed in 1978 to promote friendship and understanding between the towns of Penicuik and L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

The Twinning Association is run by a committee of volunteers who work to raise funds and to provide information for groups and individuals who wish to visit L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.  The Committee can advise on any funding which may be available for groups and on travel and accommodation arrangements and can assist in liaising with out colleagues in France.

Twinning has provided many people in Penicuik with experience of that country and it’s people, something you do not usually get on a package holiday.  Friendships are formed and return visits help nurture understanding and tolerance.

Our Aims

Our aims are to continue to promote and encourage links amongst all age groups wishing to share common interests and learn more about our twin town and it people/

L’Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is an extremely picturesque town in Provence, situated approximately 10 miles east of Avignon and about one hour north of Marseilles. Just like Penicuik, it used to be a papermaking town but now it is a well-known centre for the antiques trade.  Much of its attraction derives from the waterways which flow through the town.

The surrounding area is rich in colour from fields of lavender and sunflowers.  Vineyards abound and the wine is just waiting to be sampled.  There is much of recreational and cultural interest.
